Family and Consumer Sciences Education provides a unique learning experience that empowers students to manage the everyday challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society. Courses in Consumer Sciences emphasize community leadership, coping skills and critical thinking skills needed to deal with the challenges affecting one’s environment. Instruction strengthens basic academic skills in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, and develops critical-thinking skills through practical applications in real-life situations. To address these concerns, students often participate in service projects within the classroom setting. Whether students are interested in exploring a variety of content areas, deepening their core subject knowledge, or developing a future career pathway, these programs offer a wide range of opportunities for all students to develop knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary for success in the 21st century.
